Hello all, I have a problem with my car, namely with the DSG or clutch. I am hoping someone might have some answers or help for me. I recently had the DSG map applied to my car and all was going good until one day I was driving on the highway at about KPH and all of a sudden the car revved to redline. I slowed and then accelerated again and the car did the same ting, it was fine in fifth gear, but wasnt good in sixth.

I pulled into the nearest service station, thankfully it was within one KM, and then the car just acted really weird, from standstill in first it would rev then jump and kept repeating this, then a warning that revers gear was not available.

I stopped and turned the engine off. The guy who did the DSG map was local to me so came along and returned the DSG map to stock and all seemed to be ok, except now the car was very clunky in changing gears, but only from 1 to 2, 3 to 4 and 5 to 6.

I was able to drive the KM home, although the DSG changes were not very pleasant for the gears as above. I took it to the local VW dealer the following day and got them to check the gearbox oil and replace it, it was about 1L low.

After this the car still had the clunky changes making driving VEY uncomfortable for anything over a couple of KM. I again took the car to the local dealer and asked them to have a look into this, so left the car with them. They were unable to do any work to the car, saying that the DSG software was the wrong version and so their computer was unable to read it nor were they able to update it with an upgraded version, they then sent the files to Germany for their assistance.

At this point they were told to stop working on the car as the ECU had been modified They showed me the email conversation where VW Germany were able to confirm the mileage that the map was applied and that they were voiding my warranty.

I am not sure if the clutch opening unintentionally is related or a different issue, but the issue that is there now only started when the DSG map was returned to a default stock version, although VW said this was the wrong software.

Yeah really not good, but the morale of the story here is don't mess with factory stuff unless you are happy to accept responsibility and loss of warranty, even if the cause of the fault wasn't your own doing.

Hope you get it sorted mate, fingers crossed. Don't understand why you wouldn't want to say who it is. If it's one of the main tuners, others may end up with the same bad issues but you could help them avoid this. So is this officially the first real case of the TD1 flag I'm glad you've mentioned that as this is the 1st time I've heard of any mapped DSG going wrong. The 7-speed DSG automatic transmission—or DQ—is a transmission that is growing rapidly in popularity. And with that growing popularity comes a growing number of people who may fall victim to some of the faults that can occur with this transmission. Unfortunately, the faults we have seen so far can be quite pricey to repair. The previous 6-speed direct shift gearbox DSG —the DQ—was a single chamber affair, meaning that all the components within the gearbox shared the same fluid.

This had the disadvantage that contamination from any component within the transmission could impact any other component within the transmission. The DQ made a lot of changes that brought about better efficiency and weight-savings over earlier models.

But the two most significant changes were separating the hydraulic system from the rest of the transmission, and moving to a dry dual clutch assembly. In moving the hydraulic system—the valves and solenoids and other delicate mechanical components that is the control centre of the gearbox—into its own enclosed system, the transmission has a greatly reduced chance of suffering a fault as a result of oil contamination clogging up vital components, since the only contamination that can get into that chamber would come from the components within.

Simultaneously, moving to a dry clutch assembly removed the biggest source of the aforementioned contamination from the transmission fluid altogether. It also made it so you no longer have to open up any of the transmission in order to change replace the clutch assembly. An unavoidable aspect of any clutch system is that it will wear down over time. The new dry clutch assembly in the DSG DQ is much more akin to a regular manual transmission clutch than the previous DQ wet clutch.

The control module for the transmission will attempt to adapt and compensate for clutch wear over time, however it will eventually reach a point where the clutch is simply too worn to function properly. Slipping will often manifest as the the engine revving higher than it should.

In extreme cases, it may not be possible drive at all. The way the dual clutch system works means that one clutch is responsible for odd-numbered gears, the other for even-numbered.

For this reason, having issues in all the odd or even numbered gears as opposed to specific gears is a big indicator that you have a clutch problem.

It requires special tools and a certain procedure that, if done incorrectly, will damage the new clutch, and can even damage the transmission itself. Due to the expense of the clutch assembly and the technicalities of fitting it, some manufacturers will only sell these clutches to fitters that have passed a course and are qualified to fit them.

This is the separate hydraulic system mentioned above. It is located on the side of the transmission—which is towards the front of the vehicle when fitted—and is a self-contained unit, meaning it can be removed entirely and replaced without having to dismantle any part of it. I mentioned this when it went for its first service last week and VW decided to remove the gearbox and found one of the clutch packs was faulty and are now replacing both clutch packs.

Has anyone else had this issue and if so, is this something that is likely to bugger up again? The car has only covered miles and whilst I have heard of problems with the older DSG boxes I am starting to think that the new dry clutch packs could be the reason behind them messing up so quickly in the newer cars. It's in at the moment getting the clutch packs changed which I've just been told could be 3 weeks because they are on back order. Did this cure yours? The other 2 were the wet ones and were faultless. I've got similar on my Fabia vRS, with intermittently poor change from 2 to 3 and again from 4 to 5, in either auto or manual. Charge is apparently for checking it on the vag-com. To say I'm unimpressed would be an understatement Cupramax 8, posts months.

Late last year it started having gear change problems, and a scan showed this. In Conjunction with Thank you very much for the reply, could you explain further as the above doesn't make sense to us. I'm pretty sure the gearbox specialist we're using has a manual for these boxes, although I haven't spoken to him since posting this thread.

As I understand it the mechatronic unit is a sealed unit with it's own hydraulic system and oil, totally separate from the gearbox oil, it is supplied pre-filled. We also changed the gearbox oil.

The manuals and instructions I've read have all stated not to spill any fluid out of the mechatronic breather when working on it or the gearbox as it can not be refilled.
